Accounting Alumni Award for Excellence in Accounting
One gold medal is awarded annually, usually in October, to the student graduating from the Master of Accounting program who has the highest marks in all required and elective accounting courses. The gold medal is valued at approximately $900, and is made available through donations from Accounting alumni. Selection is made by the Admissions Policy and Reviewing Committee of the School of Accounting and Finance each fall.

Alumni Gold Medals
The Office of Alumni Affairs recognizes top graduating students for academic achievement, by awarding the Alumni Gold Medal. These medals will be presented to a master’s and a doctoral student to recognize their outstanding academic performance at Fall Convocation. Students who graduated the previous spring or will be graduating this coming fall will be eligible for nomination. Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) requests each Faculty to nominate one student at the master’s level and one for the doctoral level. A minimum 80% average is required.

Award of Excellence in Graduate Supervision
Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) in collaboration with the Graduate Student Association (GSA) established this award to recognize exemplary faculty members who have demonstrated excellence in graduate student supervision. Preference will be given to faculty members who have been at the University of Waterloo for a minimum of five years. Normally, three faculty members will be recognized each year at Spring Convocation.

Amit & Meena Chakma Awards for Exceptional Teaching by a Student
The Amit & Meena Chakma Awards for Exceptional Teaching by a Student were established through a generous gift by Dr. & Mrs. Chakma to recognize and promote teaching excellence of our next generation of educators.
The Awards are given in recognition of excellence in teaching of all kinds by registered students and are open to all students who have a formal teaching role (e.g. teaching assistant, laboratory demonstrator, sessional lecturer) at the University of Waterloo or its federated and affiliated university/college.

Governor General’s Gold Medal
The Governor General’s Gold Medal for graduate studies will be awarded at Spring Convocation to recognize high standing academic achievement to a master’s and a doctoral student. Students who graduated the previous fall or will be graduating this coming spring will be eligible for nomination. Students who receive this medal will also receive a personalized certificate signed by the Governor General. Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs (GSPA) requests each Faculty to nominate one student at the master’s level and one for the doctoral level. A minimum 80% average is required.

Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Studies Designation
Each year, nominees for the Alumni Gold Medal and Governor General’s Gold Medal are considered for a designation of “Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Studies - Master’s or Doctoral”. Nominees who do not receive a medal may be awarded the Outstanding Achievement in Graduate Studies designation. Recipients will be selected by the Advisory Committee on Graduate Scholarships and Awards and the Associate Vice-President, Graduate Studies and Postdoctoral Affairs and will receive a certificate.

W.B. Pearson Medal
This medal was created to honour Professor W.B. Pearson in recognition of his contribution to the University of Waterloo and to Canada as a research scientist and teacher. One medal will normally be awarded annually to a doctoral student from each department in the Faculty of Science at the discretion of the department concerned in recognition of creative research as presented in the student's thesis.
