Statistics and Actuarial Science

The Department of Statistics and Actuarial Sciences offers a Master of Actuarial Science. The Master of Actuarial Science (MActSci) program is for strong candidates who have a first degree in a quantitative subject (not actuarial science) and who now want to fast-track through the preliminary, mathematical subjects of the professional actuarial curriculum.

Application Deadline

All applications should be completed by the deadline date.

• February 1 of the same year, for Fall term (September) admission.

Admission Requirements

Admission requirements for students admitted into the Master’s in Actuarial Science are as follows:

• A four-year honour’s Bachelor’s degree with an overall A- (83%) average from a Canadian university (or its equivalent);
• proof of competency in English (if applicable), see Academic Regulations-English Language Proficiency Certification for acceptable tests of English;
• Three letters of reference, normally from academic sources;
• Resume.  

Degree Requirements

The requirements for the Master’s degree in Actuarial Science is as follows:

• There will be 15 one-semester courses offered for the MActSc candidates. The Course Structure and Requirements can be on the Statistics and Actuarial Sciences department website;
• It is expected that candidates will take all 15 courses.

The award of MActSc degree requires candidates to pass at least 12 courses, with an average grade of at least 70%.
