The Department of Psychology has extensive laboratory facilities, where animal and human research is conducted. Research requiring special populations (for example, clinical research) is often carried out at other institutions under the supervision of faculty members of the Department
Research facilities are also provided through the Early Childhood Education Centre (ECEC) which operates half-day Preschool, Junior and Senior Kindergarten programs for children aged 2 1/2 to 6 years. Philosophically the program is an application of the theories of Piaget, Kamii and Devries, Spivak and Shure. The play centered curriculum offers experiences in early literacy, emerging mathematics, beginning scientific thinking, art, Kodaly music, computers, dramatic play, social and cognitive problem solving. All of the indoor facilities have adjacent observation booths equipped with one-way glass and a sound system. Closed circuit TV can be arranged. The ECEC is well equipped as a resource for observation and research in developmental and educational psychology.
The University and the Faculty of Arts have excellent computer facilities that are available to graduate students. The Psychology Department has extensive computing services including terminals, a variety of microcomputers and a comprehensive library of statistical programs. There are also full-time persons available for consulting. Electronics, carpentry, and machine shops are also maintained by the department and are staffed by full-time technicians
