The minimum requirements for admission to graduate work are the same for the Faculty of Arts as for the University of Waterloo, with the following exceptions:
- The Faculty of Arts interprets the admission minimum of a full B as 75%.
- Students admitted to Master's programs with either probationary or transitional status must obtain an overall average of 75% in all required courses. By no later than the end of a student's second term, departments are required to submit a report with respect to each transitional or probationary student, indicating that the transitional or probationary conditions have been satisfied.
- Applicants who are required to take the Test of English as a Foreign Language (TOEFL) must obtain a total score of at least 580 [and a minimum of 4.0 in the Test of Written English (TWE)] to be considered for admission (note that some departments require a higher score). (See Academic Regulations - English Language Proficiency Certification for other acceptable tests of English.)
- Some departments in the Faculty of Arts require an average of 78% in the major for admission to their programs. Candidates should consult the admission requirements of specific departments.
