One of the entrance requirements for study at the PhD level in the Faculty of Arts is normally a Master's degree with an A- average in course work. In exceptional circumstances a student may be admitted to a PhD program with an Honours Bachelor's degree. For students to be recommended for the PhD degree, departments in the Faculty of Arts require all or a combination of the following:
- completion of specified course work;
- completion of the language requirement;
- satisfactory performance in written and/or oral comprehensive examinations;
- completion of a seminar requirement;
- internship;
- submission and defence of a thesis, embodying the results of original research.
