MMath (Software Engineering - ConGESE)

The Consortium for Graduate Education in Software Engineering (ConGESE) provides education specially structured for software professionals in Ontario industries and leads to a Master of Mathematics degree in Computer Science, with a specialization in Software Engineering. The Software Engineering - ConGESE program is designed to meet the needs of software professionals in the technology field. It is directed to those who currently work in product development groups and who have experience in one of the following areas: software architecture, development, design, testing, verification, or product support.

This unique program is offered jointly by several Ontario universities (Carleton, Queen's, Western, York and Waterloo), with strong industrial support. Each of the universities offers courses in this program. The courses are commonly offered in locations convenient to cooperating industrial sponsors and are designed for the working professional, who might otherwise find it difficult to attend regular, on-campus graduate programs.

This program provides a blend of academic rigour and industrial relevance. Each course is taught by a faculty member with strong credentials in research, real-world experience and teaching in the subject area. For more detailed information about the program, and program information contacts, please refer to the ConGESE website.

The application procedures and admission criteria for the ConGESE Master's program are the same as for other applicants to the MMath program. The ConGESE program, is a part-time program in which the students are typically sponsored by their company. Applicants to this department must be able to take courses in the Waterloo/Toronto area. When applying online applicants should select the Computer Science - MMath - Software Engineering program.

ConGESE MMath Degree Requirements

For ConGESE students the degree requirements and procedures are the same as for other MMath students, except that the number of courses taken each term is normally one. Thus, with this modification, a ConGESE student who chooses the research paper option should follow the requirements outlined under the MMath Research Paper option. Similarly, a ConGESE student who chooses the thesis option should follow the requirements outlined under the MMath Thesis option. A number of the courses will be given by the other universities in the Consortium.

In addition to satisfying all other requirements for the MMath degree, a student pursuing a concentration in
software engineering must take courses to satisfy the ConGESE requirements which place emphasis on core software
engineering material, project management material, software technology material, applications engineering material, and related electives.
