Introduction

Financial Assistance

Each year we offer Teaching or Research Assistanships to qualified incoming Masters and PhD students.  Masters students are normally awarded two one-term TA's/RA's over the duration of their program and four one-term TA's/RA's for doctoral candidates.  Teaching Assistantships are normally awarded over two terms - Fall and Winter - beginning in September.  (NOTE: the one-year MAES degree is an unfunded program).

In addition, students with a minimum 80% overall average may qualify for a University of Waterloo Entrance Scholarship (no application is necessary). Students with these scholarships must be registered full-time and maintain a minimum overall average of 80%.

Additional financial support is also available from several sources. Applications for external awards, such as those offered by OGS, must be made in the fall of the year preceding the one for which support is sought. Further information about internal/external scholarships and awards can be found under Graduate Student Funding on the Graduate Studies Website.

International Students - further information about international awards and scholarships can be found under International Awards on the Graduate Studies Website.
